LIPOSUCTION & ITS RESULTS

Liposuction is generally considered a safe procedure. However, all procedures carry a small degree of risk. Risks of liposuction include infection, numbness, scarring, bleeding, and contour irregularities. There are also rare and severe complications associated with liposuction such as problems with anesthesia, blood clots, injury to internal organs, excessive blood loss, hypothermia, allergic reactions, and even death. The risk of dying in any surgical procedure is about 1 in 250,000, similar to the risk of dying in a plane crash. The risk of dying from liposuction is slightly higher, about 1 in 50,000. In contrast, the chance of being involved in a fatal car accident is estimated to be 1 in 5,000. Interestingly, in one study of 23 office surgery deaths in Florida in the early 2000s, the death rate was three times lower in patients operated on by board-certified plastic surgeons, versus other doctors such as cosmetic surgeons.
