Liposuction is generally considered a safe procedure. However, all procedures carry a small degree of risk. The risk of dying in any surgical procedure is about 1 in 250,000, similar to the risk of dying in a plane crash. The risk of dying from liposuction is slightly higher, about 1 in 50,000. In contrast, the chance of being involved in a fatal car accident is estimated to be 1 in 5,000.
